I started this transcription project on the 3rd August. This last stage picture was taken exactly two months later. I have not worked on it every day but it must have taken around 50-60 hours maybe (?) the longest I've ever spent on any painting by far.
What have I learnt? That Vermeer was a fucking genius, but I knew that already. It has been very engrossing and calming to gently slog away at trying (and obviously failing) to get a likeness to the original, accepting the fact that all the source material I have varies in colour and tone. Short of going to Vienna again (which I will at some point) to see the actual painting...
